If you’ve reached a place where you feel like you’re ready to be found by Jesus ... that you’ve found Him ... that you’re prepared to cross the line of faith ... or however you might put it ... begin by saying to God, in your own words, that you need Him. It’s appropriate to acknowledge that you’ve been living in a way that is far from Him. You are a sinner who needs a Savior. Then tell Him you want to be forgiven for your sins. You want a clean slate, a new beginning, your past erased. You know what Christ did on the cross applies to you, and you believe. Your prayer might sound something like this ...
Heavenly Father, thank You for being merciful. I know I am a sinner. I am separated from You. I also know that sin must be dealt with. I believe my sin would separate me from You forever because that’s what I deserve. But You sent Jesus to die for my sins. I now believe that Jesus took that punishment when He died in my place on the cross and rose again. Right now, I trust Jesus alone as my Savior. I want to become a follower of Jesus. I receive Jesus into my life. I believe He was God and that He came to pay the price for my sins when He died on the cross. Please forgive me for living life my way and cleanse me. I turn away from that life, and I turn toward You. Thank You for accepting me and for the forgiveness and eternal life I now have. I offer You my life and commitment to follow You, Jesus. As best I know how, and with Your help, I want to live for You from this day forward. Come and lead me, Holy Spirit, so that my life will glorify Jesus. I depend upon You and submit to Your plans and purposes for my life. Make me the type of person You created me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
